About Me

My name is Jade Kennedy and I am a 17 year old from South Lyon, Michigan. Ive attended South Lyon High School for the past 4 years. Throughout my whole life, my family has been my support system. I live with my parents, Jeff and Colleen Kennedy, along with my younger brother and sister, Chan and Karis. I think of myself as a good communicator, self-motivated, and responsible. This fall, I will be attending Central Michigan University, where I plan to do my undergraduate studies. For the past year, I have been providing child care for two little girls: light house work, getting them to activities promptly, and picking up from school. When I am not watching after the girls or doing schoolwork, you can find me somewhere outdoors. I love the beach, going on hikes, snowboarding, and camping. Traveling to as many different places as I can is one of my favorite things. I like to keep myself pretty busy. Above everything else, I love spending time with my family and friends.

What 3 words would you use to describe yourself? Why?
The three words I would use to describe myself would be responsible, honest, and a good communicator. I am responsible because I grew up watching after my younger siblings and cousins. I would also describe myself as honest because I think things are better stated while being straight forward, rather than beating around the bush. I feel I am a good communicator because I can easily get along and interact with most people.

What motivates you to do your best?
When I want to motivate myself, I create goals. Thinking about achieving my goals pushes me to try harder and do my best. I keep the picture of my goals in mind, and think about my family and friends who want to see me do well. Making the people close to me proud and remembering my goals helps me give my all.
How would you handle an irate customer (boss, parent, or coworker)?
While working at restaurants, I had to deal with many upset customers. In that situation, I stay polite while still being straightforward. I keep a smile on my face and attempt to calm them down and explain the problem they are concerned with.
If you ever found yourself in a situation in which you were asked to do something against your values, what would you do?
When I was working at a pizza place, one of my co workers suggested that I should just steal some food from the restaurant. Right at that point, I removed myself from the situation and let my boss know. I did this because I believe that it is never right to steal.
How would you sell hot cocoa in Florida?
This would be difficult being that it is generally hot weather in Florida. So, I would need to think of a way to make hot cocoa appealing in the heat. My idea is to create iced hot chocolate and set up a booth on the beach.
What is your greatest strength? What is your greatest weakness?
My greatest strength is my ability to see things from other people’s point of view. I feel that I am really good at putting myself in another person’s shoes and understanding how they might feel in a certain situation. This is part of what makes me such a good communicator. My greatest weakness is letting myself fall into procrastination. I will admit that there are times when I make excuses and avoid doing my work. When I do this, I tell myself to come to my senses and assess what’s necessary to get my work done.
Education
I have attended South Lyon High School for the past four years. I spent my time there taking 3 years of Spanish, becoming the role of a PRIDE member, and finishing off with a GPA of 3.2. I plan to attend Central Michigan University in the fall to continue my undergraduate studies.
